At Stillwater Quarter Horses we offer quality prospects with modern genetics, balance, brains, beauty and conformational correctness.  Our main focus is on reining horses and reined cow horses, featuring sons and daughters of NRHA, AQHA, NRCHA and NCHA Champions and Million Dollar sires. Our horses are all enrolled in the AQHA Incentive Fund as well as being enrolled in many other incentive programs such as NRHA SIRE & DAM, NCHA BI, RMRHA, NRCHA SS, BABCOCK RANCH and more.

Dr. Rod Melchert graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1977. After a successful 30 year veterinary practice, he and his wife Susan, moved to Montana to fulfill a lifelong dream to raise quality American Quarter Horses for the equine performance industry.  You can be assured that our prospects have been raised with the utmost care and diligence in large rolling pastures in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains which enables them to build strong minds and bodies that are well suited to reining and reined cow horse disciplines.

We are so glad you decided to stop by Stillwater Quarter Horses, where we take pride in producing a quality herd of performance horses. Although our main focus is reining and reined cow horse breeding, these pedigrees are  interchangable with other events such as cutting, sorting and versatility ranch horse. We raise well rounded individuals. We do NOT imprint our foals. They are handled routinely for vaccines, farrier visits and dewormings. They are taught to lead, load and tie at an early age and then return to the pasture. We do not believe in "imprinitng"our foals,  as we feel it produces spoiled, pushy, confused individuals.
